Course Catalog Description

Continuing proficiency-based course which focuses on reading, discussing, and analyzing authentic texts as a basis for the expression and interpretation of meaning. Conducted in Spanish. Students cannot enroll in SPA 202 after earning credit for a course higher than SPA 202.

Course Overview

Develops advanced oral proficiency through authentic readings, video, and audio while broadening understanding of Spanish-speaking cultures. Class focuses on oral communication, learning strategies, and active discussion across diverse topics—from literature and current events to student-selected subjects like politics, customs, and education. Students must complete online assignments before class and engage actively in discussions. Communicative goals include narrating, describing, reporting, expressing opinions, hypothesizing, and analyzing abstract topics. Conducted entirely in Spanish. This 4-credit course fulfills prerequisites for the Spanish major and minor.
