Course Catalog Description

 Continuing proficiency-based course which refines and expands previously acquired linguistic skills in culturally authentic contexts. Activities are conducted in Spanish. Students cannot enroll in SPA 201 after earning credit for SPA 202 or higher. Course Overview

 SPA 201, Intermediate Spanish is a course designed to further develop, strengthen and refine the skills of students who have achieved the Novice High to Intermediate Low level of proficiency in the language. It is a proficiency-based course that reviews understanding of the formal structures of language, refines previously acquired linguistic skills, and builds awareness of Spanish culture. Authentic oral and literary texts are introduced. The course uses film, TV/radio, and literary texts in developing oral, listening, and reading skills. By the end of the course, students can be expected to communicate effectively in the language: giving and getting information, surviving predictable and complicated situations, narrating and describing in present, past, and future time, supporting opinions and hypothesizing comfortably in Spanish. Classes are conducted in Spanish. Grading in the course is based on the quality of work in activities throughout the course as well as oral and written examinations.

 PREREQ SPA 102 OR REQUIRED PLACEMENT EXAM SCORE
