About Tavish Van Skoik

Tavish is an Assistant Director of Project Advance at Syracuse University, overseeing mathematics, computer science, and information technologies courses. Tavish is an experienced educator and instructional designer with a diverse career that spans multiple facets of the education sector. Originally born in Syracuse, New York, Tavish moved back to pursue a master’s degree in Instructional Design, Development, and Evaluation (IDD&E) at Syracuse University. Tavish has always dreamed of attending SU.

Tavish’s journey in education began as a middle school science teacher in Charleston, SC, where a passion for fostering student curiosity and engagement in STEM fields took root. This experience laid the foundation for a broader career trajectory that would later encompass instructional technology, professional development, and data-driven decision-making in higher education. Transitioning from the classroom to administration, Tavish served as an instructional technologist and an administrator in a K-12 school district. In these roles, he was responsible for developing and implementing professional development programs aimed at integrating technology into teaching practices. Additionally, as a founder of the Sumter Cyber Innovation Council, Tavish has contributed to the intersection of education, data science, and cybersecurity. He also spearheaded a dual enrollment program for cybersecurity in partnership with the United States Air Force and The F.B.I.

He has worked extensively in curriculum evaluation and alignment with institutional competencies, notably with Syracuse University’s Office of Institutional Effectiveness. Outside of work, Tavish enjoys exploring innovations in technology and education, and is dedicated to lifelong learning. He lives in Downtown Syracuse and enjoys nature, horticulture, riding bicycles, and playing guitar.
